Four tips so your wedding dance floor never empties out

One of the biggest worries when the party starts is that people will stay seated or leave early. Here are four things you can do to avoid it.

We're Eli, wedding planner. One of the biggest worries we have when the wedding party begins is that the dance floor slowly empties out, because people stay seated or start heading home. Here are four tips to keep the party full.

1. Look at how big your space is

If the room where you'll hold the party is very big, even with a lot of guests it will look empty. For weddings that are already really small, this is very important to keep in mind.

If we see the room is bigger than we want, we can shorten it with fabrics, screens or some kind of panel. And along with that we can decide whether it's white fabric, whether it has some colour, or whether we make it black, because it's darker for the party and it can also look really good.

2. Create a party atmosphere

The idea is that it feels like a party, a club or something like that at night. When there's a lot of light we usually find it harder to dance, we're more self-conscious and we stay a bit more still. On the other hand, when we feel we're really part of a party is when we let go and stay in the middle of it.

Besides the darkness, we really recommend adding some colour effects, like a red or a dark yellow.

3. Put in a dance floor

A dance floor marks out the space. When people see those squares they usually feel more like being on top of them, and instead of dancing around the edges they focus on getting inside. The more people packed in there, each with their own space, the more they'll dance and the fuller the room will look.

4. Be careful with chill out and rest areas

We like to think about our guests and about them being comfortable, and we usually also think about older people who need to rest. But if we put a lot of tables and chairs outside, what will happen is that people scatter.

What we can do is set up rest areas, but quick ones: some simple tables or, if we put in comfortable armchairs, only two and not six.

Keep in mind that this tip is for those who are really worried about their dance floor not being full. If what matters most to you is your guests' comfort, then of course you can put them in.

We hope one of these four tips helps if you want a party that's a ten.
